Let's have more / Tengamos más

Have you looked at the stars lately? A sunset, a sunrise? Maybe at some kids playing at a fountain or a field? Have you looked at your hands, your eyes? Have you felt your heartbeat?
This coming 2015, instead of or in addition to (whatever your preferences) the new year's promises and resolutions, simply decide to have more.

More compassion,
     for others and yourself.
More water,
be it in tears, dances in the rain or snow fights.
More food,
to savor in your mouth, to share with others and realize where it came from. Be thankful.
More light,
in the form of sunshine, knowledge or simply in the company of others that share theirs.
More love,
from hugging a tree, talking to your grandparent about life or enjoying a kiss or a hug.
More life,
to live well and more presently, making sure you are contributing to others' well being in some way.
More color,
     from flowers, music or travel.
More smiles, more questions, more... Let's have more.
__

Systems / Sistemas

It's frustrating to see how our systems work. They're highly efficient in maintaining us disconnected, between bureaucracy, cheap politics, corruption... The hopelessness of monotony is maintained and reinforced. It's the old phrase "things have always been that way and they're going to stay that way". Systems that appear to be inefficient because people people continue to die submerged in poverty, submitted under banks and corporations, anguished by the uncertainty of what the next year will bring, murdered by a diarrhea and if not, later, by a bullet.
But if the objective of certain systems is to keep their power, they are highly efficient in maintaining the current conditions. People that barely survive the day to day, that have no access to dignified health and education, tagged as less than human because of the color of their skin, because of where they are from, because they are poor, and "poor people are poor because they want to be".... On the other side, people that don't have everything but have a lot, thus they have enough, so you can't question anything and it's just easier to believe that the systems are fully democratic, fair, transparent.
We should all be affected by the fact that children still die at birth or hunger, it should be unacceptable to everyone (even if they're not your kids) that a young guy dies from a gunshot or that a young woman dies simply for being a woman. No elderly person should be barefoot on the streets, looking for money or for refuge in the benches of a park. Armed forces should not annihilate those who are trying to transform the world (those that do it by stopping a fight from escalating to more violence, to those that are studying in order to reach the farthest communities). Maybe armed forces shouldn't exist at all, nor prisons or war factories.
Where are we, the citizens, in times when we need to open our mouths against injustice, so that we can help others open their eyes? Have they been able to silence us, harden us, isolate us? Has the system won us over?
"You won't change anything on your own, just go with the flow". It's a lie. We can make differences every day, wherever we are. We can communicate better and be more compassionate, every day. We can find our power and use it, every day.
No, systems have not absorbed us completely. We can still feel empathy, we can question what is the given, think of alternatives. We can hope.

"Do not accept the habitual as a natural thing. Because in times of disorder, of organized confusion, of dehumanized humanity, nothing must seem natural. Nothing must seem impossible to change". -Bertolt Brecht

¿Acaso lograron callarnos, endurecernos, aislarnos?

-Bertolt Brecht
